I have spent part of the past few days researching possible replacements for BTMs Content Management System (CMS). The organization has out grown their current system and need something with greater capabilities. I have installed several Joomla implementations in the past and was wary to use it again. The system has a lot of features but it is also complex and difficult to manage. Parsons is big on Drupal and I began my search there. It quickly seemed the perfect fit. It is a flexible system, it utilizes taxonomies for organizing content (this is great for a news site), plus it has a large user community which means good support and plenty of third party plugins. But most notably PCB, BTMs web hosting and tech support company, is familiar with the system and has several other clients running Drupal implementations. With that I was sold.
I have had some exposure to Drupal but I have never installed and set up a system before. I found that their website has a lot of great resources for getting started. I began my search with the Drupal Hand Book found here: http://drupal.org/handbooks
http://drupal.org/videocasts/installing-6
great install video tutorial goes over all the steps in clear detail on how to get Drupal up and running.

this is a good overview of what drupal is and how it works.
After reading/viewing these tutorials I was able to get Drupal installed no sweat. Tomorrow I am going to work on the theme for the site.
