I am spending this and next week in the Outpatient Daycare Center and in the Advocacy Center observing/helping/advising. On Thursdays there is the Cooking Program where the patients with depressive, schyzophrenic and bipolar disorders gather to cook together. The tasks are divided among them; some go out to buy the food (they are therefore subjected to managing with payments, counting money etc...), while others set the table, prepare lunch, wash the dishes etc...
I went with the shopping group, observed the cooking (progress in using the knife, peeling the potatoes etc...) and then ate with them.
Later in the afternoon we had a gathering and they were very happy and excited about meeting "someone from New York". They were asking all sorts of questions about the City and about how I got there etc...
They are all special in their own unique ways and they are ABSOLUTELY getting better every single day. The Outpatient Daycare Center is doing a fabulously efficient job!
