I made it! I arrived Saturday night and have been settling in since.
I made my rounds at the office and am sorting through e-mails and trying to let everyone know I got in ok. I meet with the management staff tomorrow to clariy goals and expectations, but for now I am reading through my schedule and some collateral material.
I am staying at a b&b and it's comfortable but a little cold. I've found the people here to be rather friendly but overall a bit distrustful. One of my coworkers came by yesterday to drive me around town and it was lots of fun, although it makes me very uneasy to travel on the other side of the road. :) It really is beautiful here, and I'm very grateful for this opportunity.
I'm having some serious internet issues at the b&b and I may need help setting up a wireless network. I'm not sure how often I can post in the meantime, since they have me pretty busy here!
Doris & Joe, it looks for now that my trip to Durban is tentatively planned for Tues, 6/17 to Thurs, 6/26. I'll let you know when that is confirmed.

Laura, it's been advised for us not to visit Durban during that first weekend you are there. There is a large marathon happening there during the holiday so most flights and bus tickets are booked and/or overpriced.
We were wondering, are you planning on visiting Johannesburg at all during your time here in ZA?
You can always stay with us and we would pick you up from the airport. Let us know. I'm here in ZA until July 19th.
Hmm, I don't think I'll make it up to Johannesburg during my stay. Especially since I had a traumatic experience going through customs and being harassed by porters who demanded tips and threatened to run off with my luggage. Haha.
I'll let you know if I change my mind!
