[ five days into one post ]

my housemate, joeseph mauriello.

my other housemate, mr. cockroach.

Nokia N80, used as a USB modem but also for its bluetooth transfer capabilities.

Sometimes it takes a while for video transfers.

Fortunately and unfortunately, the apartheid era is archived in a museum.

Friday

  • We met a "coloured man" - accepted ZA terminology for one born of a White African + Black African.
  • We went to his house in an attempt to [together] connect to the internet via Bluetooth.
  • He supports the recent Xenophobia attacks.
  • He is proud of his middle class status.
  • He uses the 'n' word freely.
  • If he were in Detroit, he'd be shot for his racist and labeling views.
Saturday
  • "Bonnie and Clyde" tried going down the hill, on top of it is where we live.
  • We got lost but made it safely to have a Thai lunch with Thuli (BTM lead coordinator)
  • Surprisingly, the Asian cuisine here is rather good.
  • Nightly visit to a black township (Soweto) not extremely subjected to Xenophobia attacks.
  • Saw the old gold mines in the dark.
Sunday
  • Visited the Apartheid Museum.
  • Watched jaw-dropping documentation on the social system, elevating violence, + individual narratives.
  • We left angry, sad, and appalled.
  • Joe and I want to do a road trip to Durban. Does anyone want to come along?
